Vacation Getaway on the Bay: Paver Patio, Trex Decking & Gas-Heated Outdoor Living in Morro Bay, CA
This project began as a referral from a past, happy client—always the highest compliment we can receive. The new homeowner reached out to us for help transforming what was once their parents’ summer getaway, a home used to escape the intense valley heat. Over the years, time had taken its toll. The existing brick patio had broken down, the deck framing had become severely rotted, the hillside was actively eroding due to the lack of a retaining wall, and the old steel gas lines had deteriorated beyond safe use. The outdoor space that once served as a place of relaxation had become unsafe and unusable.
Our team started by addressing the critical infrastructure. All outdated steel gas lines were removed and replaced with brand-new polyethylene gas lines for improved safety and long-term reliability. To stabilize the failing hillside, we engineered and installed a substantial retaining wall measuring three feet deep and three feet tall. This not only secured the slope but also created a solid foundation for the new outdoor living space.
A custom wind block made from half-inch tempered glass was installed around the deck to provide protection from coastal winds without sacrificing the open views. The entire deck structure was rebuilt using all new pressure-treated framing for durability and longevity, then finished with Trex Transcend decking planks to create a beautiful, low-maintenance raised patio designed for year-round use.
To complete the hardscape portion of the project, Morro Bay Gray pavers were installed with gray polymeric joint sand and fully sealed, giving the patio a clean, cohesive, and long-lasting finish. Landscape lighting was carefully placed throughout the space to highlight the new plantings and bring warmth and ambiance to the yard in the evening. Decorative pottery art was integrated into the layout to add character and visual interest.
Because the homeowners live out of the area, this entire project was managed and communicated remotely. We maintained clear and consistent communication through weekly progress photos and updates, allowing the clients to stay fully involved and confident every step of the way despite the distance.
The end result is a fully revitalized outdoor living space—structurally sound, visually striking, and designed for both relaxation and entertaining—bringing new life back into a property that holds deep family meaning, while creating a safe, functional, and beautiful environment for years to come.
