Tailored Outdoor Living in Arroyo Grande, Ca

From an outdated backyard to a complete outdoor living and entertainment space, this design-build in Arroyo Grande, California landscape renovation was designed and built to give our customer a beautiful, functional, and low-maintenance backyard they can enjoy year-round.

The property originally had a large, approximately 2-foot-diameter walnut tree that had become diseased, an aging 9-inch-thick concrete slab, and landscape areas that had become primarily weeds. We completely transformed the space with a new landscape and hardscape design incorporating multiple areas for entertaining, relaxing, and recreation.

The project included:

• Custom light broom-finish concrete patio providing plenty of room for outdoor furniture and entertaining

• Custom gas fire pit creating a comfortable gathering area

• Louvered aluminum pergola that can be adjusted to provide sunlight or shade

• Bistro lighting integrated into the pergola for evening entertaining

• Solar-powered landscape lighting selected with the customer to provide additional ambient nighttime lighting

• Custom wood-burning fire pit constructed with Morro Stone from Air Vol Block and a steel fire ring, providing the warmth and atmosphere of a natural wood fire

• Roman Morro Bay Gray pavers installed in an I-pattern to complement the surrounding hardscape

• Artificial turf cornhole area, specifically sized to create a fun and functional recreational space

• Professionally designed planting areas featuring layered plant sizes, textures, and varieties selected to provide seasonal color and flowering throughout the year

• Plants supplied by Mesa Grande Nursery

• Gopher baskets installed to help protect the new landscaping

• Drip irrigation system with integrated fertilization to improve long-term plant health and simplify maintenance

• Hunter Pro-HC smart irrigation controller for efficient, weather-responsive irrigation management

The finished landscape brings together concrete, pavers, artificial turf, planting, fire features, lighting, irrigation, and a modern pergola to create a complete Central Coast outdoor living space designed around the way this family wants to use their backyard.
